The Museographic Itinerary

" Chavaniac is for me a temple where those things sacred to my heart are gathered together " LAFAYETTE

Chambre natale du Général LafayetteTodays, Lafayette’s heart and spirit are more than ever present in this house where voices make you go back a long away in time and where lights guide you to the heart of this Manor, in the birthroom where the Marquis was born on 1757 september the 6th.

The walls tell you the story of his life, his happy childhood in Chavaniac, and as if it was a play the setting is ready and the characters are gathered to stage a great event : his wedding with Adrienne de Noailles...

All along your tour, you’ll meet his ancestors and will be allowed to come into the secret world of the Freemasonry to which Lafayette has been very loyal throughout his life. Then in the XVIIIth Century Gallery, philosophers of his time tell you their opinions about an important cause for Lafayette : abolition of slavery.

Finally, in a little theater reshaped in the XVIIIth Century fashion, you will attend a movie in which his wife Adrienne de Noailles relate the Lafayette american epic and his struggle to free people of the new world from England Kingdom.

The Garden

One of the few gardens opened to the public in Haute-Loire.

You can extend your tour by the visit of the big garden where several places are set side by side like many little private gardens : the Rose Garden, the English Garden, the ponds, the Brook Bank, the Secret Garden...

You will be charmed by the variety of plants, trees and bushes coming from foreign countries.
